AMGs feature handbuilt high performance engines and features not available on standard Mercedes vehicles. For example, mine has a handbuilt 5.4 liter V8, AMG monoblock wheels, aerodynamic bumpers/skirts, exhaust, intake, AMG exclusive two-tone perforated leather, unique woodgrain trim, instrument cluster, etc. The limited production and handbuilt nature of the cars make them significantly more expensive than a run of the mill Mercedes and they hold ther value a bit better than a non-AMG car.

There are also AMG packages that add little to a car other than styling/wheels. These aren't true AMG models... Remember - model style (E, C, S, etc) and three digits (230, 320, 500) is nomenclature for normal Benz. AMG nomenclature is model style and two digits (E55, S63, etc.)

AMG used to be an independent company was fully acquired by Mercedes Benz to sell against BMW M-Division.

Fancy extras added, at a price! But truly, they have diluted the AMG magic by putting silly big alloys on small engined diesels! Back in the day, the AMG badge meant that you had put your hand in your pocket for an EXTRA 15 grand, AT LEAST, on top of the price of the Mercedes-Benz to begin with - and I'm talking when 15 grand was a lot of money, unlike now.

AMG is the tuning arm of Mercedes. However it's not all about 'speed'. 'Styling' is a part too.

You can buy an AMG version of most Merc models.....including those with the 'smallest', lowest specd engines.

AMG is the Mercedes-Benz in-house performance and tuning division.

They will use their own engines as well as upgrade the other parts of the vehicle such as the suspension and brakes for better handling.

AMG are the tuning arm of Mercedes. AMG cars will have significantly more power and torque than the standard model. They will cost more to buy and insure of course.
