I have a mercedes and I was looking to have it services, but i was not sure if any mechanic could work on it, because I know that there are special mechanics for those cars but are they different than regular cars? Thank you.

I think that the newer Mercedes are ridiculously complex and poorly documented, so for anything newer than the mid-90s, I would go to a reputable independent foreign car specialist or a Mercedes dealer. Even simple things like oil changes can be screwed up by not resetting the service reminder system, or by using the wrong oil.
Older Mercs were much more forgiving and service-oriented, I would be more inclined to trust them to a good general mechanic.

for oil changes, filters, etc minor things are no big deal unless its under warr. still, this could be a way for them to negate the warr.
all major work on Mercedes should be done by a cerified mercedes mechanic to assure its done correct and also a recourse if not fixed proberly,
Out of warr. a good mechanic can repair it, yet check some shops, as quite a few do have certified mechanics to work on mercedes

No all mercedes have different parts than a regular car and the only way it can be fixed is by a mercedes dealer

Better go to a place specializing in Mercedes. Just ask some Mercedes owners in your area (even strangers) where they take their cars for service and ask them if they would recommend going there.

It all depends on what you need to have done. Simple, maintenance type of work is more generalized and can probably be done by any competent technician. Specialized work, such as diagnostic type of work, may require a Benz technician that has access to many of the specialized scanners and tools for Mercedes vehicles.

No. Today all Mercedes require thousands of dollars of special tools and computers to repair. Most repair centers do not have the dollars to invest in the proper equipement. Unless it is very simple repair then always use an authorized dealer.

I would go to the local Benz dealer to get your car worked on. Joe Blows car repair down the road may not know what he's doing.

it depends on what service you need to get done. if its a big job then take it to a german car specialist or mercedes dealership. if its a simple job like an oil change, any mechanic can work on it yes.

Probably the average mechanic can take care of things but they may not be as familiar with the Mercedes and may take longer.

the repair can be "declined" but in some places wipers parked in the up position will not pass inspection as they are considered a visual impairment. you may consider used parts, installed at a "gas station" shop. but the savings will be of no consequence the next time it is pouring and the used wiper motor dies remember upscale cars don't break down, they malfunction-expensively

if it's routine most mechanics can do it, when it gets into more specific things you might need to find a general mechanic who specializes in MBZ.
