There is no such thing as an '85 190E AMG. There was the 2.3-16V version which would be worth a lot more than the regular 2.3 (8-valve) if it is in good shape but the high-performance version was never called an AMG.

@ A,

AMG was a privately owned company in the 80's and yes, they did custom modifications for customers' vehicles so there could be a 190E 2.3 that did receive the AMG treatment. However, such a car would not be called a 190E 2.3 AMG.

Today however, AMG is a Benz wholly owned subsidiary company and today an AMG vehicle is recognized as a specific model within the Mercedes model line-up

Ignore the scrap value comment - very uncool whoever you are mate.

It is worth something if it is has the genuine article with the cosworth engine and AMG kit on it and it is worth more that 150 bucks scrap value. It honestly depends on where you are in the world. Here in Australia they are worth between 12k & 20k depending on the state of the vehicle. The later ones are worth more tho.

The 190E didn't do well in the states for some unknown reason - so perhaps they just aren't demanding the same coin. I think if you want to sell her perhaps advertising her overseas is a good idea - this is only a viable option however if you have an absolutely unmarked/molested and low mileage vehicle.

In response to Bandit -

You comments regarding AMG are not valid. If the car is a genuine AMG modified 190 e, then the car is a rare car in the same way that an AMG 126 is a rare car. Even more so when one takes into account that in order to have an AMG modified 190, you had to pay full noise for the car new from MB and then take it to Affalterbach to have it modified. For instance, a 126 500 SEC sells here for 4 to 8 k, however, a 500 SEC AMG recently sold for 20k in average condition and it was not even the widebody, one of which recently sold in the UK for 25thousand pounds as it was one of ten ever produced. The value hinges upon the provenance. A merely kitted 190 is not worth much although, the kit would easily, if it is AMG genuine be worth more than mere scrap money If it is a cosworth, that is an entirely different matter again.
