If it was unreliable, what was the problem? How did you fix it and how much did it cost and how long did it take?

Has anyone owned a reliable or unreliable Lexus? What's your story?

I've driven Mercedes for 12 years. I've driven diesels almost exclusively, with the exception of a 1995 S320. That was BY FAR the worst car I have ever owned in my life. 101,000 miles on it when I sold it, and it was falling apart. Every time I turned around, it was in the shop, and another $600-$800 repair bill followed. On the other hand, my old diesels are the BEST I've ever owned. I'd gladly buy a 20-year-old Mercedes diesel with 300,000 miles on it, but I wouldn't give one red cent for a Mercedes built after 1991, and not a diesel after 1987. My 1984 300SD Mercedes has 649,500 miles on it now, and I'm still driving it 5 days a week. It has never had an engine overhaul, and I'd like to see Mercedes build a car like that again, but it will NEVER happen. They threw quality and dependability out the window YEARS AGO. As far as the Lexus, why in the hell does anyone want to buy a glorified Toyota with leather seats and pay twice the price? Buy a freakin' Camry and be done with it. I just don't understand the Acura-Lexus-Infiniti thing. It's just a freakin' glorified Japanese car. Big freakin' deal. Cadillac's a GM, Lincoln's a Ford, same difference. Well, whatever. SIDE NOTE: ALREADY had one of those rice-burner yahoos give me a thumbs-down! Ha! That is so freakin' funny

I had a 70's 240D that had over 700,000 miles on it, the engine was still going but the underside rusted out from the salt on MN roads, I was afraid I would be sitting on the road in the seat and the car would be still going down the road. Those old diesels run forever and are easy to fix anything that goes wrong, which isn't much.

my mom had a '99 Lexus E something and it finally went out after 7 years. She then picked a '07 C230 and shes had it since March and the only problem she's had is big bubbles in her tires.

OH BOY ITS YOU AGIAN :) (also, seeing as ur not just a Mercedes hater and you do know other cars exsist, I have more respect for you) I answered this kind of in one of the other questions You asked, so here you go, thank god for copy and pasting. (btw all these cars were bought new) OK, let me say this, my family has been driving Mercedes-Benz since 1983. We had a 1983 380SE, its now in my aunt's garage. She still dives it. Unlike some people when ANYTHING happens to our cars we let the dealer fix it.

I think we had was the windows on the passager side of the car quit working in 1985?. The next Merc we bought i think was a 380SEC, i dont rember it so im not saying anything about it, we traded it in 1987 for our 1987 260E. This car is AMAZING. I drive it to and from school everyday(along w/ anywhere else i feel the need to go to). We take it in once a year for oil change and etc... and it still runs like brand new. This car has had no problems besides the ussual like lights going out over time and stuff like that. The next Mercedes we bought was a 1997 e420. Now as you know first year cars always have some problems. We had to have the xenons releveled. That was it. However we had one other problem with the engine after taking it to an auto carwash. The man at RBM couldnt figure out what was wrong with, but the car was violently vibrating, after a while it quit, it was weird. Also the back rear window wouldnt go up or down, we never did fix this though, this happened in 2002 so we just got another one. After that we bought a 2002 C240. I loved this car. Never had to take it in expect for brakes and thats because my grandmother drove it like a race car.... so many speeding tickets. Then we bought a 2003 E320 (Still having the c240, and 260E) It rode smooth. We had SOME problems with this one, im not gonna lie. We had to replace the brakes, mutiple times in 05, the car phone always had somthing wrong with it and the homelink wouldnt work. Now we have a 2006 C230. This car we've had 0 problems out of, I just don't like it because its the sport sedan and it has that cheap looking metal trim in it. So now we have a 260E, C230 and a 2007 Lexus ES350. The Lexus has been in the shop for somthing invloving the engine starting system. (i dont like keyless go in ANY car) Before that it was in the shop for brake failure, and before that for the car locking when ever it felt like it. (as in the car already locked, it unlocks then locks back key no where near the car) So who knows maybe my family has good luck with Mercs and nothing else. It might just be us. All I know is from my experence our Mercedes-Benzes (Plural of benz ?) have been good cars, and the 1 Lexus we have have been good, but to give the car the benifit of the doubt, its a first year car. OH by the way, we have a 2001 toyota 4runner. we've had no problems with this car either besides the brakes and brake lights go out in about 1 year at a time. So my verdict...

2003 Mercedes E320 = the car we had the most problems with.

2002 Mercedes C240 = GREAT CAR

2006 Mercedes C230 = GRAST CAR, horrible interrior, the Lexus IS is better, with the wood and leather.

2007 Lexus ES350 its ok, i still like the new C class better, and the Bmw 3 series, and the Audi A4

Now I think the reason we had such problems with the E320 was that...

1. First year car

2. Chysler

becuase notice, after Mercedes sperated from Chrysler, their Quilty did go up, since my family does have a Lexus, i must say, I do approve of the interior, better than the C230, but thats because it has black leather and that ugly metal trim, if our Merc had Beige leather and Wood trim I would say Lexus and Mercedes were about on the same level. Also about the problems and cost...

1983 Merc 380sel, we never did have that window fixed... so... $0.00?

1987 Merc 260E battery- $60.00

1997 Merc E420 headlamps- $200, we never did fix that window either.

2002 Merc c240 brakes- $350

2003 Merc e320- in all... $2,500, it was alot.

2006 Merc- $0.00

2007 Lexus ES350 the engine/locking unlocking was some kind of re call- $0.00

brakes- $600

theres you go if i left out any info u may want, just ask me it.

have a good weekend

im sorry, but i just read some of the other answers, so to clear this up....

have owned 2 benz's no major problems, E320, C280. Have a friend that swears by Lexus, she pays more to repar and service it than I do for my Benz.

Look at this website. It has a bunch of stories with dissatisfied Mercedes customers. http://www.mercedes-benz-usa.com/

Yeah, I have a mercedes. Never buy a BMW, they are soo horrible. I used to have one. So far my mercedes CL 500 has been really nice. I like how it runs. It's O.K. on snow. It hasn't failed on my yet and it's really comfortable.
